Our Ultimate Guide To The Four Skin Types Part One: All About Dry Skin

When building a skincare routine that supports glowing, healthy skin, one of the most critical pieces of the puzzle is knowing your skin type.

Because different skin types have their own unique needs for care, understanding the characteristics of your type is what will help you choose the right products and get the results you are wanting from your routine.

So to help you out, we are excited to share a special blog series, looking at each of the types in-depth. Today, let’s talk about the ins and outs of having a dry skin type!

What defines dry skin?

Simply put, the term dry skin refers to skin that produces little to no oil. Dry skin is sometimes confused with dehydrated skin, but the main difference is that dehydrated skin is characterized by a lack of water, rather than a lack of oil.

It’s also important to note that dry skin is a skin type certain individuals are born with, whereas dehydrated skin is a temporary condition and may be experienced by all skin types at one point or another.

How To Spot a Dry Skin Type

One easy way to tell your skin type is by looking at your pores. If you have dry skin, you will notice that the pores on your face are very small and barely visible.

Additionally, some other telltale signs of a dry skin type include: dry patches or rough texture, flaking skin, skin that feels tight or itchy after washing, and more visible signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles.

Tips for Daily and Weekly Care

Day-to-day skincare for dry skin should be all about replenishing and nourishing the skin. For this reason, formulas that promote moisture retention are key. Some great ingredients to look for when addressing dry skin will be Vitamin E, collagen, honey, glycerin, squalane oil, aloe, hyaluronic, and lactic acid.

Because cellular turnover can be a struggle for dry skin types, exfoliation should still be incorporated into your routine about 2-3 times per week. Although dry skin can be more sensitive, gentle alpha-hydroxy acids will work well to remove any buildup of dead cells on the surface of the skin.

Products We Recommend For Dry Skin

  • Collagen and Vitamin E Sheet Mask – Enriched with skin plumping collagen and a plethora of antioxidants, our youth-boosting sheet mask is a must for dry and/or mature skin. We suggest adding this step to your routine following cleansing, massaging any excess serum into the skin and following with moisturizer to lock in the benefits.

  • Night Cream – For promoting rejuvenation and repair, our new night cream features a multitasking formula that gently exfoliates, softens, and soothes dry skin while you sleep. Key actives in our proprietary blend include antioxidants, peptides, alpha-hydroxy acids, and anti-inflammatories.
  • Collagen Infused Hydrating Lip Mask + Brightening Collagen Eye Masks – Because the lips and under eye area don’t produce their own moisture, dry skin types may have an especially hard time keeping these areas from looking and feeling depleted. When this happens our concentrated masks are the perfect rescue remedy, working to plump the skin and minimize fine lines.
